Ronald was jailed in 1971 for the horrific murder of Linda Stewart. He served twelve years and was released. He killed again in 1989, though this time he killed himself on remand.
Killer found dead A convicted killer awaiting trial on a charge of murder was found dead in his prison cell yesterday. Ronald Bennell, 37, was found hanged in his cell in Manchester's Strangeways jail. Bennell, of Cheadle Heath, Stockport, was charged with murdering Mrs Pamela Noone, 42. He had already served a life sentence for murder. Newcastle Journal Friday 26th January 1990
Below is a link to an article about one of Barry Bennell's abuse victims. It mentions Ronald's relationship with Barry (only two years between them) and gives details of the two heinous murders 18 years apart. A sad, but interesting read.
In 1970 Ronald left a suicide note. He finally carried out his threat nineteen years later. A shame he didn't Pierrepoint himself after the first murder, or preferably before it.
Thanks Matthew. I got a bundle of old TD and MD mags the other day. I've been reading some of your articles. Read a piece earlier on the US soldiers hangings during WWII at Shepton Mallet. Thought it was really good.
