Attacked prisoner dies Prisoner Michael Smith, 34, serving a life sentence, died in hospital yesterday after being struck with a pickaxe in Parkhurst Jail, IOW, on Monday. Smith of Tottenham, was convicted in 1969 of the manslaughter of the cashier of a childrens' home, robbery and possessing firearms. Sunday Mirror 12th December 1971
There is a story in the Buckinghamshire Examiner (7th June 1968) that says that the man Smith killed (Henry Tweed) donated his kidneys to a 21yr old girl. "The four hour transplant operation is believed to be unique in Britain in that the donor was a murdered man"
