Rdical would be allowing judges to be elected and to pass whatever sentence they felt like passing, like it is in the US. Also, the notion that 'whole life tarrifs' are relevent is irrelevent considering they never give them out, 1 in 2018 and 1 in 2019, so declaring a whole new branch od people that could be given them is more hot air.

If i was going to adopt an idea from the US, my first choice would be prisoner chain gangs, at gunpoint.
I think for those who choose a life of crime, prison is just an occupational hazard. Better than honest work for them.
If the punishment was hard manual work, digging ditches, laying roads etc I reckon a lot of lazy, criminal type would
be more scared of doing time.

This is what I think too, although building other things such as homes, roads and follies, buildings of little practical use. Obviously only trusted people would be allowed to do complex stuff but hard work should be central as most of the rest of the population has to do hard work, often for what amounts to little more than a small cell for life. |

Are the whole life tariffs given in 2018 and 2019 "terror related"? Baffles me that term. Along with "hate crime" Read any random murder in these archives and i guarantee a) The killer was filled with hate b) The victim was filled with terror. |
